Affiliate Clean-Up!!
Posted by Cinder on December 07, 2009, 05:53:28 PM

Hi,

First off, I'd like to welcome two new affiliates: Final Fantasy Union (Final Fantasy) and Kingdom Hearts Union (Kingdom Hearts), both owned by Kyle of FinalFantasyXIII.net! It's great that Golden Sun Realm is also affiliating with sites about different games!

At the same time, I regretfully have to take down some of the affiliates. Recently, as you may or may not heard, GameSpy stopped offering hosting to fansites (interestingly enough, Chronicles is still up). That is why you can't access this site from the Gamespy.com address anymore. This site was affiliated to a number of them, but I've not heard back from them when I e-mailed. So, if you are reading this and would like to continue affiliation, please let me know. Also, if you ARE still using the old address anywhere, please update it to the .com address! Thank you!

The following sites were affected:
  • Pyroman University (not GameSpy hosted)
  • Super Smash Bros Arena
  • Temple of Undine
  • The Animal Forest

That's... a lot. Sad

One last non-related reminder. Once again, final exams have started, so I'm out for a month, although I'll always be itching to do something small once in a while since school is that boring. It pains me greatly when I always have to wait until school is over before I can do some fun stuff to the site. I am still very happy that you come to visit despite seeing old, incomplete, funny-looking pages. Rest assured, I have some big things planned for the site overall -- the site, the fan fictions subsite, and even the forums. Some things that I announced years ago are still on my mind, and I'm excited to execute them even if they aren't cared about by anyone anymore. Still, please wait for me!

EDIT: I just noticed that the Psynergy Guides aren't pulling all of the Psynergy from the database (ie. Cure, Ply, Dull). I noticed when I was fixing up the Enemy Guide and saw the Refresh Ball using Earnest Ply. This was due to differentiating between GS and GS2-exclusive Psynergy, so it used to be fully working until I replaced the GS Psynergy Guide. I'll fix it sometime after the new year while releasing the Enemy Guide (which evidently means the Boss Guides get fixed and updated). Smiley Yes, I seem to be more productive when I don't want to study... Thanks for all your good lucks!

Post Count Recount Soon
Posted by Cinder on November 20, 2009, 11:22:25 AM

Hi,

I've recently helped out some people and their duplicate accounts, but it appears that their post counts haven't been updated. Also, settings on each board have changed over time and threads have been moving around, which doesn't seem to update the number for the users either.

So, after many years, I plan to run something that updates each account to ensure accuracy. People will either go up or down, but in the end it shouldn't matter, right? You're primarily here not because you want to raise this small number, right? I was thinking of holding this on the New Year, but I won't be around for that time, so it'll probably happen sometime before now and then. When the board's under maintenance, you'll know what's going on. In that case, just try to revisit again shortly after to see if I've finished up.

GS:TLA Psynergy Guide and Browser Compatibility
Posted by Cinder on October 14, 2009, 02:28:57 PM

So, I felt weird one day and started thinking about how to display data in a more flexible way, without having to wait for a new layout that knocks the right navigational bar outta there to give me room. And, instead of paying attention in class, I drew it out on paper, and instead of studying or doing homework, I got it somewhat working to how I envisioned it... I need to do school work, really!

You can actually play around with it if you want. In the future I also want to create a way to group Psynergy together better and in new ways (Ply -> Ply Well -> Pure Ply). I haven't done this for Golden Sun specific Psynergy, but it won't be difficult. Like always, suggestions are welcome. I did get it done at 3AM, after all. It ain't perfect yet, but I mean really, who still needs an informational site like this one anymore, anyway?  Wink v.2

I also wish to keep a page that differentiates the Gem Field Psynergy from the Inherited Field Psynergy (look at me, making up terms), so that will come later. Also to come later are individual pages of the Psynergy, where I hope to maybe include animations, groupings, and more. This isn't too important, however. I ended up including the ones that weren't included in the game, so maybe later I want to create an option to display those too. We don't want people to be confused and go "What? Are you making up Psynergy, too?"

Updates for everything else in the same way are on my mind, too. Individual character pages, weapons, armors, items, everything. It's good to fix up things that were not-so-well-written by a younger me. A lot of work, yeesh!

On a last note, I put up a detector for those who're using IE6 to view the site. If you use IE, please use IE8. I beg you. Even if IE8 still does something weird with fieldset/legend styling. Ever since I changed the table layout to a div layout, browser compatibility issues ESPECIALLY with IE became a huuuge concern. Even IE7 messes with the right navigational bar a bit. It wasn't a cool thing to show my boss... "Oh, uh, that right bar? It isn't supposed to be like that -- what version of IE are you using again?"

I'll look up some fixes in the meantime to at least let IE7 look fine, so hopefully it'll be okay. I've been developing under the latest version of Firefox, and the latest version of Safari and Opera seem to be OK although Safari sometimes messes with the graphics for the news layout. So, the main lesson here is, please don't use IE6 to view the site. IE6 destroys it. And it's destroying my other site, too.

Good and Bad News Topics
Posted by President Raggy on August 24, 2009, 07:13:43 AM

In case you are confounded, confused, contemplative, constipated, or any other c-word...

The Good News Topic and Bad News Topic have been merged into one and moved to Forum Games. Do what you will with them.

If anyone has anything significant that they want to draw more attention to [attention outside of these topics, that is], they may create a separate topic in General Discussion.

Here is the link to the new The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly News.

Public Reminder
Posted by Nyroeon on August 19, 2009, 09:19:50 PM

I just want to draw attention to the very first two rules of our forum, 1 and 2a:

Quote
1) Please respect fellow board members and their opinion. Generally, we will not tolerate any sort of trolling or bashing.

2a) Avoid at all costs anything that could be described as SPAM (Stupid, Pointless, Annoying messages). These are messages that provide no useful information or that we would be be better off without.

Rule-breaking lately has been so rampant and consistent, if I see anyone breaking these rules, I will (within reason) delete or modify the post without warning. If the user has made a significant infraction, I will send a warning via private message, and if the behavior doesn't stop, I will issue temp bans.

I am a very lenient person, and if you or anyone else believes I have wrongly banned a user or edited a post, feel free to message/contact me and we'll talk.

For now, though, things have been so ridiculous on the forums that I'm going to step up and begin enforcing our rules, and hopefully as the other moderators visit, they'll begin to be a bit more active in their duties.

Site News + Forum News = ... SiteForum News!
Posted by Cinder on June 26, 2009, 06:16:03 PM

Wow, I'm just not creative today.

Maybe some of you remember when I didn't have a CMS handling the news. That went on for a little while because at that age, I had no idea what a CMS was in the first place.

Then, while we were on Planet Nintendo (Gamespy), Chris over at Lufia World helped me connect the phpBB forums to the site. phpBB was eventually converted to SMF, so for some reason things didn't work out anymore. Then CuteNews came into the picture. CuteNews was hacked, caused some problems, but it was still all right for the time being, I guess.

Then we had to leave Gamespy. CuteNews still worked, but Aaron over here came to the rescue and converted the data into SMF posts, so now the "site news" are finally one! It can't get better than this! Did I mention he LOST SLEEP while making sure things went fine? Yeah, everyone, kick him in the bum for it! (And don't forget to pat him on the back too, thanks Aaron!!)

New Gallery
Posted by Cinder on June 19, 2009, 05:08:12 PM

Hey there,

After a few hours, I've finally got the gallery up. With this, I can finish the migration from gamespy to this server.

At the current moment, those who wish to submit something should let us (maybe me for now?) know through PM. This can be either fan art or some official art, anything that fits. You may request your own folder for your works. Think of this as an addition to the threads you make in the fan art forum. I still suggest activity in there! Any changes, such as descriptions (even things like adding e-mail or websites), titles, deletion, or anything should be sent through PM as well.

Later on, maybe we'll have a new topic in the fan art section welcoming any submissions, making PMs an alternative choice. Or something, we'll have to figure out something together, okay?

GS DS stuff is coming. Shoulders are just stiff right now...

Golden Sun DS: A Tiny Bit of Prologue
Posted by Cinder on June 09, 2009, 05:20:24 PM

I was kind of in the dark about it. I assumed the text scrolled on the bottom screen, so this is all you get to see based off a screenshot (linked below the passage):

The heavens stormed. The lands quaked.
The seas raged. Across the land, people
prepared for the end of the world.

The tale spread that this great calamity
was caused by some unknown soul who
had released a forbidden power upon
the world.

Gamekyo has a couple of random pictures taken at E3.

And Inside-Games has a picture too.

Golden Sun DS Demo Gameplay (Again)
Posted by Cinder on June 07, 2009, 05:50:18 AM

RPGamer's camera footage of the demo. Probably the same things you've seen before except for some commentary and dancing djinn on the upper screen, which you may or may have not seen yet.

Thanks dole_95 for the heads up!
